Junior Class Policies & Safety
Open Registration. Registration for the next session starts on the sixth week of the current session. New students may start registering on the fourth day of the registration week. An email reminder is sent to parents when registration opens and the students’ class placement starting next session.
New Students. Students with prior professional badminton training should request an assessment by completing the Assessment Request form. New student registrations are accepted after the fourth day of registration.
Students with no experience, or middle or high school class or club experience are placed into classes by age as follows:
How to Register. Online registration is only available for students with a credit/debit card and a signed waiver and release on file.
Registration Deadline. The registration deadline for each session is 10:00 pm on the Friday before the start of the session.
Partial Registration. Partial registration is registering for only part of the session, such as 6 of the 8 weeks. Partial registrations will not be processed until after the registration deadline for the session, and space is not guaranteed.
Email Confirmation. After we receive your class registration/renewal, you will receive an email confirming we’ve received the registration with details of the registered class, class times and days, and total tuition for the session. Please note that the class spot is not secure until we receive payment for the signup fee. Please contact the Front Desk if you submitted your registration but have not received a confirmation email within three days.
Due Date. The $20 non-refundable required signup fee is due upon registration for each student each session. The tuition is due on the first day of the session. Discounts do not apply to the signup fee. We accept all major credit cards, checks, and cash. A $5 reprocessing fee will be accessed for each declined credit card.
Receipt. You will receive an email receipt for all payments. If you do not receive a receipt via email, please contact us immediately.
Sibling Discount. The Sibling Discount only applies to the lesser of at least two full session tuition.
Member Discount. To receive the member discount, students must be a Club member at the time of registration for class and for the first four weeks of the registered session; students may sign up as a member and register for class simultaneously to receive the member discount. Students without a membership before the end of the fourth week of the registered session will no longer be eligible for the member discount and will be charged the difference at that time.
Cancellations received before the first day of the registered session will receive a full credit/refund of the tuition. Cancellations received on or after the first day of the registered session will receive an 80% credit/refund of the tuition for the remaining classes. Credit/refunds will not be provided after Week 4 of the registered session.
Changing the frequency of classes, e.g., 2x/wk to 1x/wk, is considered canceling.
Cancellation due to injury with a signed doctor’s note will receive 100% credit/refund tuition for the remaining classes.
Students in Junior Elite, Elite, Team 3, Team 2, and Team 1 classes are required to register for a minimum of two classes a week. Registering for 1x/wk would be considered a partial registration that will not be processed until after the registration deadline for the session; space is not guaranteed for partial registrations.
In order to better prepare for classes, we greatly appreciate being notified of absences. All missed classes are forfeited. However, notifying us of absences allows coaches to better prepare for the class.
All students in classes will be assessed during class in each session. An email is sent out with the updated class placement for all students for the next session at the beginning of Week 6.
For promotion from Smash 1 to Smash 2, or Competitor 1 to Competitor 2, players will undergo in-class assessments according to our standards and values assessment instrument. These can also be measured at our Jamborees for students of all levels. For promotion between all other classes, students are assessed during class time and their results are discussed by our coaching team. All coaches are invited to have their feedback reviewed, with the final decision being made by a head coach. No student that is taking private lessons with a coach will be reviewed for promotion by that coach.

All policies and attire requirements are in place for the safety and comfort of our participants. Wearing proper attire not only can improve performance but can prevent injuries and offer protection.
All athletes, regardless of class and level, are required to wear athletic wear. This includes tracksuits, sweat suits, t-shirts, polo shirts, shorts, and socks. Absolutely no jeans allowed.
All athletes are required to wear closed-toe, athletic, non-marking, rubber-soled shoes. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE COURTS IN ANY OTHER SHOES.
All athletes in Smash 2, Competitor 2, Junior Elite, Elite, Team, and High Performance, are required to wear badminton specific court shoes.
For children ages 4-10 or children under 4’6” (54”), we highly recommend a junior sized racket with a grip size of G5 or smaller (G6) and a thin grip for the badminton specific development of each athlete.
If you do not have a racket of your own yet, there are starter packages for students at a great price for purchase at the front desk. You may also borrow a racket at the front desk to use during class. Loaner rackets are first come, first served, and the Club cannot guarantee a racket will be available for use every time.
To borrow a racket, you must leave your first and last name or a photo ID (required for adults) and the class you’re attending on a piece of paper at the Front Desk.
It is very important for student-badminton development to have a professional coach teach students during their competition games, so our Club will sponsor at least one (1) professional coach to travel with our team for tournaments. A coaching fee will be collected by the Club for the coach(es) travelling with the team.
Students travelling to tournaments may miss class when tournaments overlap with class schedules, usually on the weekends. Students are responsible for notifying BBC of the absence in advance. Absence notifications may also be given by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, by phone at 425‑562‑2950, or in-person at the Front Desk. Please provide the student’s name, class, date of absence, and, if possible, the requested date for makeup.
Please note that only absences for participating in USA Badminton Sanctioned tournaments will qualify for a makeup class. Makeups are not guaranteed. All makeups must be scheduled within the same 8-week class session the student missed class; otherwise, the class is forfeited. Only makeups for absence(s) in the last week (Week 8) of the current session may be scheduled to Week 1 of the next session, provided the student is registered for the next session. Students not registered for the next session must schedule makeups within the same session as the absence.
To maintain a safe environment for all students, coaches, and parents, we have a set of policies based on our collaboration with SafeSport, the governing body surrounding safety in US Olympic sports. There must always be at least two adults in the gym if there is only one minor student present (such as a private lesson). This goes for all interactions between coaches/administrators and our junior students.
Coaches may not give a ride to an individual student to or from group or private lessons. Coaches will treat all students fairly and without prejudice, with the intention of keeping our badminton clubs a safe environment for all people on physical, emotional, and psychological levels.
