Court Shoe Policy
Clean, appropriate indoor court shoes are required for everyone entering Bellevue Badminton Club courts, including for reservations, organized play, classes, and lessons.
Why This Policy Matters
Badminton involves quick stops, changes of direction, and sideways movement. Proper court footwear helps support safe movement and reduce the risk of slipping and injury. Keeping outdoor shoes off the courts also helps prevent dirt, grit, and moisture from affecting traction, scratching the floor, or damaging the playing surface.
This policy helps keep BBC courts clean, safe, and in good condition for every player.
Required Footwear
All players must wear indoor-specific court shoes with non-marking soles that have not been worn outdoors. Change out of outdoor shoes before entering the courts, and keep court shoes clean and free of dirt, grit, and debris.
Acceptable examples include indoor badminton, volleyball, and basketball shoes, provided they meet these requirements and are suitable for indoor court movement.
The following are not permitted:
- Street shoes or any shoes worn outdoors.
- Running shoes, trail-running shoes, hiking shoes, or boots.
- Sandals, slides, flip-flops, or other open-toe shoes.
- Shoes with marking soles.
- Playing barefoot or in socks only.
A shoe labeled “athletic” or “non-marking” is not automatically suitable for badminton. Ask the front desk before entering the courts if there is any uncertainty about footwear.
Shoe Rentals and Court Access
Players must bring acceptable footwear or pay to rent approved shoes before entering the courts. Rentals are subject to size and availability and are not included with membership, court rental, or event or class registration. Current rental pricing is available at the front desk and at BellevueBadminton.com.
If suitable shoes are unavailable, players may not enter the courts or play until they obtain acceptable footwear.
Compliance and Court Care
Players must follow staff instructions regarding footwear. BBC may require a player to stop playing or leave the court until acceptable shoes are obtained. Players are responsible for floor damage caused by failure to follow this policy.
